Does laser PMU and tattoo removal hurt

The honest answer: it's unpleasant but bearable. Most clients say after the first session that they expected worse. Here is what it feels like, where it's more sensitive and how we make the procedure more comfortable.

What it feels like

A laser pulse feels like a thin rubber band snapping against the skin, sometimes with warmth or a slight tingling. Each pulse lasts billionths of a second, so the pain doesn't build up the way it does during a long procedure.

A brow session takes 10–15 minutes, a lash line 5–10. Most clients get through it calmly without breaks.

What the sensation depends on

  • Area. Where the skin is thin or close to bone, the sensation is stronger.
  • Pigment density. The more ink, the more energy it absorbs, so the first sessions are more noticeable. Later, with less pigment, it gets easier.
  • Your condition. Tiredness, lack of sleep, stress and the first days of your cycle lower the pain threshold. If you can, book a session on a day when you're rested.
  • Expectations. People worry most before the first session. When you know what to expect, it goes more smoothly.

How we make it more comfortable

  • Cooling. We cool the skin during and after the session, which noticeably reduces the sensation.
  • Breaks. If needed, we take short pauses. You can say "stop" at any moment.
  • Correct settings. We set the energy after a test pulse rather than "at maximum". That's both safer and more comfortable.
  • A calm atmosphere. Before the session we explain every step and show how the device works.

What a consultation looks like

ConsultationYouTube Shorts
ConsultationHow we assess PMU and choose the method

At the consultation we assess the area, do a test pulse and explain the plan. The test pulse is a good chance to feel the laser before the first full session.

How it feels afterwards

For the first few hours the area may sting like a mild sunburn. A cold compress through a clean cloth helps. By the next day the sensation is usually minimal, with only redness and mild swelling left, which go away in 1–2 days.

And the remover?

It feels like a regular PMU procedure: the artist works with a device along the pigment line for 20–40 minutes, and you feel a light tingling. It may be more uncomfortable afterwards while the scab forms — the skin feels tight and itchy — but there's usually no strong pain.

Who should take extra care

If you have a low pain threshold, reacted badly to previous procedures or feel very anxious, tell us at the consultation. We'll plan a shorter first session, more frequent breaks and explain every step in detail.

FAQ

Does the second session hurt more?

Usually the opposite. The first session has the most pigment, which absorbs more energy. With every session there's less pigment, so it feels milder.

Can I take a painkiller before the procedure?

Don't take anything on your own, especially blood thinners such as aspirin — they raise the risk of bruising. If you're worried, discuss it with the artist at the consultation.

Is body tattoo removal more painful than PMU removal?

It depends on the area and size. Tattoos on the shoulder or thigh are easy to tolerate; ribs, hands and ankles are more intense. Large pieces can be split into several shorter sessions.

How long does the discomfort last after a session?

Usually a few hours of stinging, like a mild sunburn. The next day only redness and mild swelling remain, and they fade in 1–2 days.

Can I stop the procedure if it gets uncomfortable?

Yes, at any moment. We pause, cool the skin and continue when you're ready.
